Failure is When You Allow Someone Else to Define Your Success!

Congratulations Kendra on your success! Super Proud of You! Pictured above.

Failure is When You Allow Someone Else to Define Your Success!

I have shaken hands with the Secretary of the Labor, The Secretary of the Treasury, the Directors of the SBA and so many more high-ranking officials in my life while accepting awards for supposed successes I earned in the businesses I have run. I also stepped on many podiums to be awarded the national rankings I earned during my NASKA & USKA fighting days after winning so many bouts in my career. I have been highlighted in many national and local magazines for achieving levels of success that others thought commendable and should be highlighted. All of these, although I am very much appreciative, collect dust, get lost in the history books and at the end of the day don’t really matter much to me. Please don’t take this statement as ungrateful or pompous. Allow me flexibility in making my point.

My proudest accomplishment in life has nothing to do with the businesses I have run or currently run. They have nothing to do with cash value or objects I have collected/lost in my life. They have nothing to do with the fights I have won. The most endearing success for which I am most proud, is when I was able to care for my father until his last breath. I am most proud that I am able to care for my mom and my family the way I have over the last few years. I am proud of seeing my team not only succeed but grow during the trying last few years at eVOLV!

I probably will never be awarded for the care I have provided my family or my team, but in my heart, I know this has been my greatest success. I find it funny when people actually find out that I am an Alumni of the Harvard Graduate School of Business and numerous other titles/degrees. They ask why I never preface my title when meeting them as I always introduce my profession as being a “trainer.” You can actually tell a lot about a person when you introduce yourself with modesty. They show truer colors.

This is why I stopped chasing awards, titles, degrees, materialistic stuff a long time ago. All that really doesn’t matter in my life anymore. It never brought happiness or fulfillment. It only brought a sense of needing more to please more to buy more to… You get my drift.

Today I find true success internally when I can cause positive change in my clients lives on a daily basis, all the while caring for my family and my team by doing so. I don’t need to allow anyone else’s definition of success be the determining factor of my actions or direction. This is the true definition of success to me.

I see a lot of individuals coming to eVOLV wanting a perfect six pack of abs, or a huge booty like the Kardashians, or to be like this person or that person on Instagram. STOP STOP STOP! It’s time for you to just be the best version of you! A six pack of abs causes you to lose out on a happy Friday night drinking a cool beer with your hot date! A Kardashian butt will cost you tens of thousands of dollars and while you age you will look really weird. Those Instagram folks, although some of them are real, most are fake as a 3-dollar bill! Find your happiness and find your definition of success.

Yes, we have a fitness show that does get individuals to an unsustainable body type. We do it because it allows for a milestone that most will never achieve without a competitive nature behind their reason. We do it as healthy and supportive as we can be but at the end of the day, we know it is unstainable. We also know that once they have finished this gauntlet that the pride, they will feel forever is determinant of success for them individually.

We are all different and we all have intrinsic motivators for our successes. Don’t allow outside judgement to deter you from that which is truly important to you!

Today actions:

1. Brainstorm on your definition of success. Ask yourself is it truly yours or is someone else’s interpretation that you are trying to make your own?

2. If it is someone else’s, ask yourself if it is in your best interest to strive for those successes or is it just driving you nuts?

3. Then dive deep and find what success truly means to you – not titles, not trophies, not awards – the real stuff that brings true happiness to your life!

4. Then take the actions necessary to move towards those and get rid of those that you don’t need.
